NANCY STEVENS WOOD January 12, 1948 - December 7, 2013
1975: (Mrs. David Wood), 45 Brooklyn Ave., Doylestown, OH Nancy studied in the area of elementary education at UI. She currently is a substitute teacher as well as a housewife and mother. Nancy's husband, David, is a mechanical engineer in the Testing Division of Firestone Tire and Rubber Company of Akron. They have two children Jeffrey, age 3, and Adam, 1.
Nancy Jean Wood (nee Stevens), age 65, of Highland, MI, passed away on December 7, 2013.
Nancy was born in Independence, MO, moving with her family to her father’s Veterans Administration job assignments in Salt Lake City, UT, Leavenworth, KS and Iowa City, IA where she graduated from Iowa City High School in 1965. She married David L. Wood in 1968 while attending the University of Iowa where she graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education in 1969. She taught elementary classes in Mechanicsville, IA, and Barberton, OH prior to teaching 4th and 5th grades for many years in Huron Valley Schools at Spring Mills Elementary and Country Oaks Elementary. She received a Masters degree in Elementary Education from Michigan State University in 1987. She retired from teaching with over 30 years of service in 2010.
Nancy loved her family, children, grandchildren, students and many friends. She especially loved nurturing students with challenges and helping her students develop for middle school and beyond. She enjoyed the outdoors and traveling with friends, particularly to the National Parks.
Survived by her beloved husband, David; sons, Jeff (Carrie), Adam (Jessica), Bryan (Mary Beth); grandchildren, Courtney, Caylie, Matt, Elena, Julia, Dylan, Jacob and Grace. Also survived by her mother, Mildred Stevens; brothers, Randy (Cheryl) Stevens, Ron (Laurie) Stevens; many nieces and nephews, colleagues in the Huron Valley Schools and dear friends in Milford, Highland, and throughout General Motors.
A Funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Brighton, 400 E Grand River Ave, Brighton, Friday at 11 AM. Pastor Sherry Parker officiating. Burial West Highland Cemetery. Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, Milford, Thursday 3-9 PM. Memorials to: Angela Hospice, ALS of Michigan or Huron Valley Educational Foundation.
