1975: 8701 46th St. W., Tacoma, WA Phil studied phys. ed., military science, and business at UI . He is an electrical planner and estimator for the U.S. Navy at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, WA. He married Linda Herdliska, who graduated with our class.
1985: Phil is married to classmate Linda Herdliska. He is a Supervisory Planner/Estimator for the Public Works Department at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. Phil and Linda enjoy automobile restoration, hiking and photography. Their address is: l0838 Evergreen Terrace SW, Tacoma, WA
Phillip Glenn Spilger, 66, of Lakewood, WA died unexpectedly on Friday, March 21, 2014 while snow skiing. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Phil’s life will be held from 1-4 pm on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at The Kirkwood Room, 515 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City (next to Lensing Funeral Home). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Mercy Hospice Unit at Mercy Iowa City.
Philip was born August 25, 1947 in Iowa City, IA, the son of Harold and Phyllis Spilger. He was a graduate of City High School, graduated from ROTC at The University of Iowa and served in th e United States Army during the Vietnam War. On December 20, 1968 he married Linda Herdliska in Iowa City. He was employed at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, WA in 1973, most recently as an Electrical Engineering Technician until his retirement in 2012. Philip enjoyed the outdoors, water and snow skiing, was a car and motorcycle enthusiast, and an accomplished pilot.
Philip is survived by his wife Linda of Lakewood, WA, a sister Rebecca Spilger of Marion, IA, and a brother Stephen (Mary Ann) Spilger of Iowa City, IA, a niece Amy (Garrett) Jensen of Davenport, IA, and a nephew Scott Spilger of Fitchburg, WI. Philip was preceded in death by his parents.
