My first memories of Dave are from 9th grade speech at Southeast Jr. High. He was three years older than the rest of us. Coming back from City High for this class was an extremely brave thing to do I thought. His dream to get his high school diploma finally came true when he graduated in our class walking across the stage to a spontaneous thundering of applause. I have recited this story of David Schindler's desire and determination to over come adversity many times over the years to boys in my Boy Scout troop. He is one of my heroes.
