Gary Lee Murphy, 48, of San Francisco, died Thursday, June 27, 1996 after a long illness.    

A memorial mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with the Rev. James Vrba officiating.  Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be directed to the Perpetual Adoration Chapel at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church or a charity of choice. A memorial service in San Francisco was at an earlier date. Mr. Murphy was born July 30, 1947, in Iowa City, to Aloysious T. and Audrey (Rahfaldt) Murphy.  He graduated from Iowa City High School and the University of Iowa College of Business. He served in VISTA before moving to California in 1973. He worked for Speedway Printing in San Francisco for 22 years.   

Survivors include his parents of Iowa City; one sister and her husband, Judy Murphy Martin and Joe Martin of Palos Verdes, CA; one brother and his wife, Alan and Aleta Murphy of Iowa City; and several nephews.
