Candace MacQueen, 53, of 454 Lexington Ave., died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000 at her home of leukemia. At MacQueen’s request, a celebration of her life took place while she was living. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Iowa City or Leukemia Research at the University of Iowa.
Ms. MacQueen was born June 3, 1947, in Kansas City to Dr. John C. and Gertrude (McLaughlin) MacQueen. She was a 1965 graduate of Iowa City High School. She attended the University of Iowa and received her degree in sociology in 1970. She worked in Washington, D.C., for Sen. David Pryor of Arkansas and Sen. Dick Clark of Iowa. She also worked as an editor for an insurance company. She moved back to Iowa City in 1985 and worked toward her master’s degree of fine arts design.
Survivors include her parents; three sisters, Susan Hartman of Boone; Debra MacQueen and her husband, Stephen Kamelgarn, of Kneeland, Calif, and Jennifer Hamilton and her husband Douglas, of Fairfield; two brothers, John C. MacQueen of Iowa City and Brian Wright MacQueen of Santa Maria, Calif; four nieces and nephews and one great-niece.
