I considered myself fortunate in Mrs Reid's Latin Class, to have Randy seated in front of me in alphabetical order.  Randy and I would arrive early and ask each other for any questions we had from homework on translat ions.  We kidded that if we couldn't figure one sentence out beforehand, that THAT would be the sentence we would be called upon for sure!  We sometimes would resort to whispering ever so quietly any answers during class.  (I know we were not alone!)   We disliked being called up to the blackboard to translate English into Latin.  It was easier the other way  (Latin to English) from notes in our text books.

I highly recommend classmates go to Randy's obituary link as follows to read the glowing comments from fellow employees and friends.  She had occasion to meet some famous people at her hotels on the Gulf Coast.  Her funny and friendly personality prevailed all through her life, judging from the condolences.

We knew of Randy's father, Frank Carideo, at school events and by his fame on the football field, playing and coaching.

Randi  was a fun and loyal friend. She had a red car and we would all pack in and go see what trouble we could get in. One incident I remember was on E. Burlington St. We mooned two police officers. Pretty sure Candy C., and Cynthia S were there, but could have been Patty W. or Lynn O. Of course we were pulled over. The officers were very polite and admonished us. We were all very relieved because we thought that they would tell our parents.
Mr. Carideo would occasionaly call my father and rile him up, convincing my Dad that we were getting into some kind of trouble. Once we were at Pam Devin's house and they came and hauled us out. We missed a great party that time. We were out at the Coralville reservoir and Mr Carideo and my father came with big flashlights looking for us.
We saw them approach and hid behind a log, and they went home. In hindsight, I think they knew we were there because they would have spotted Randi's car. We were just drinking beer, nothing wrong with that, I will still say. She was a true friend and she will always hold a place in my heart.

Randy lived in University Heights and attended Roosevelt Elementary School.  I met her in 6th grade.  When Randy reached driving age, she had a car.  My memory may be foggy, but I think Randy was the only female to park in the student lot.  Much has changed in these years since.  In our area, females in high school have equal access to cars and many of them drive like the guys.
