Jay was one of those protectors whom every "70 pound weakling" loved to have as a pal walking to and from school. When I had to transfer at the beginning of Second Grade from Longfellow School to Horace Mann School due to a boundary change, I distinctly remember Jay introducing himself on my first day. He went on to tell me that if anyone ever messed with me, that they would have to deal with him! The word must have gotten out, because no one ever did!
I will never forget Jay's affable, honest charm and genuine cheerful likability. Inside, he really deeply cared about others and cheering up their day. Jay had a smile that never left his face. It's no wonder Jay became such a phenomenal natural business leader in life. Jay added a unique upbeat personality in school, and it continued apparently throughout his entire life. There was only one Jay Blumer!
Jay lived life well.

Gotta love Jay! We were classmates in kindergarten and first grade at Horace Mann. In order to go down the slide you had to pay with rocks at the top of the steps. It was winter, the ground frozen hard as concrete, Jay was collecting fairs standing outside the railing when he fell, out like alight he laid their awhile and finally came to about the time a teacher arrived. He once talked me into putting my tongue on the 20 degree steel post of the swing set. Once we visited Mr Hensley's office at the same time for some forgotten offense. I moved to Henry Sabin in 2nd grade and we kinda went our own way. God's Speed Jay.
